TheSusan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (now known as "Susan G. Komen for the Cure") was founded in 1982 in honor of Susan Goodman Komen by her sister Nancy Goodman Brinker.
Pink ribbons were first used in 1991 when the Susan G. Komen Foundation presented these pink ribbons to the participants of a New York City race honoring breast cancer survivors. Since then, the pink ribbon has become the world symbol of Breast Cancer Awareness. The pink ribbon was then made the official symbol for National Breast Cancer Awareness the following year in 1992.
Now, every October, organizations and individuals around the world support the fight against breast cancer with fund raising and awareness events to support and to help those still fighting. During October, pink ribbon flags and banners are a visual reminder seen everywhere to support the cure for breast cancer during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Independence Bunting & Flag joins this fight by contributing 5% of sales of each pink ribbon item to the Susan G. Komen Foundation Race for the Cure. Buy your pink ribbon items from Independence Bunting and help Support the Cure.
